Analyze your trip by "cutting and pasting" the info below into your blog post, then answer each one. For those of you new to blogging, feel free to change the text colors and format in your blog in the area where you paste your work. The icon looks like a small palette with a T on it. Just select the text you want, then choose a color. Feel free to play with the other tools in that area):
Contains a title using the format listed above .25 points
Contains the sources you used with links to these sources .25 points
Contains a brief paragraph how it connects to your study of humanities. 1 point
Contains the following "analytical elements":
Observation: What did you choose? What do you see or hear or feel or think of in the choice you made? What is the subject of the work? If you chose a 'thing' what is the work made of and what techniques (colors, lines, shapes, textures)does the creator use? Be specific in your description. If you chose a place, be specific in your description of what you see or hear. Talk to your reader as though they cannot see the item but somehow must draw a painting of what you see or hear. 1 point
Interpretation: What is your choice about? Give specific examples to support this statement in 2 sentences; do so in a way that teaches us something about your choice. Make Paulo Freire proud! .75 point
Judgment: What led you to your choice? What do you think or feel about this choice? Why do you feel this way? Support your thoughts with specific observations. .5 point
Questioning: What else would you like to know about this choice? When completing the question section, lead your audience into the question by stating a fact you do know, yet you still have the related question. This way, both your audience and you will have an educational experience. Example: I learned that John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath was based on his personal experience working with farm workers. I would like to know if the characters he used in that book are fictitious or are they people he met? .5 point
5. Using your classmates work from last week, tell us one thing you learned from 1 student. Is this one thing some common experience you share or some experience that is completely different than what you experienced? Is this one thing related to our class theoretical foundation and if so, how? Is that one thing related to historical or cultural context of this country or a different one? Link that persons blog to this entry (eg cut paste that blog entry here) . .5 point
SUBMIT YOUR BLOG post link in your LOGIN area:
Each link (eg 2a, 2b, 2c) must go in corresponding areas of our login, which means these are all different. Cut and paste the link each post gives you; you'll see this in your browser. (this helps students to go directly to your entry for this component instead of having the scroll around and look for this specific post within your growing blog. Notice how when you click on 2a for my blog post it has a different URL (fancy word for web address or web link) than my 1a blog post). .25 points
Each component is worth 5 percent of your total semester grade. This overall project 2 is worth 15% of your total semester grade.

3. Brief paragraph:

Pell, democrat was first elected to the Senate in 1960. The skinny son of a New York congressman, Pell spoke with an aristocratic tone but was an unabashed liberal who spent his political career championing causes to help the less fortunate.
4a. Observation: I chose Claiborne Pell because of the creation of the Pell Grant that served so many college students throughout the years. After reading the article I realized many more interesting things about Pell. I learned that he was a quirky man, though criticized by some for his fascination with UFOs and extra sensory perception, he was best remembered for his devotion to education, maritime and foreign affairs issues.
When asked his greatest achievement, Pell always was quick to answer, "Pell Grants." I feel that he was the best topic to pick for this assignment because of all his works and advocating for the population of the under served. Pell was both historical and educational.
4b. Interpretation: I chose Pell because I am a recipient to his Legislation creating the Basic Educational Opportunity Grants passed in 1972, providing direct aid to college students. The awards were renamed "Pell Grants" in 1980. By the time Pell retired, they had aided more than 54 million low- and middle-income Americans. This is why I am able to attend college today.
4c. Judgement: I was led to this choice by googling humanities topics. Pell popped up and I was interested in writing about him to remind those of us who have benefited from Pell's fight for legislation in 1972. Pell has aided 54 million students and I am grateful that education has bee made possible for those of us who otherwise would not be able to move ahead in life.
4d. Questioning: Now that I have found out who Pell is and what he has accomplished in his life and the millions of people that have benefited from his vision. I feel compelled to continue my research and learn more about this accomplishing man. I feel proud to have benefited from this great mans vision. what I love about this article is that Pell also shared a strong interest in the arts, and was chief Senate sponsor of a 1965 law establishing the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
5. Classmates work: I read Maria 2c blog and found that she blogged on Aquarium of the pacific. What I learned from reading her blog was the Aquarium of the Pacific is a very large aquarium that opened on June 20, 1998. It is located in Long Beach, Ca. I love to visit new and interesting places. Maria's blog created interest in visiting the Aquarium of the Pacific. I agree with Maria about Freire would think it best to learn hands on.
